Miami Valley Conference Honors Lauren Hill

The Fall Miami Valley Conference First Team Recognition ceremony was held November 9 at Cincinnati Country Day Schools.  The event is held to honor First Team recipients from all of the Conference-sponsored fall sports.  In addition, Players of the Year, Coaches of the Year, team champions, James Wright Coaching Excellence Awards, and Dick Snyder Sportsmanship Awards were presented.

Four years ago, a new award was created to pay tribute to Cincinnati Country Day coach and athletic director at the time, Theresa Hirschauer, whose battle with cancer was an inspiration to all who know her.  The Hirsch Award for Courage goes to a Miami Valley Conference athlete who has displayed tremendous courage in the face of extremely difficult odds and hardships.  The award has been presented three times - initially to St. Bernard's Kirsten Collins, then to the Hertzel family from Summit Country Day in memory of Robbie Hertzel and to T.J. Robinson from Seven Hills.

This fall, the athletic directors decided to award Lauren Hill with the Hirsch Award for Courage because of the way the young lady has inspired not only the MVC athletes and coaches, but an entire nation and world.  Theresa Hirschauer herself made the announcement at the November 9 event, and explained that she was "humbled" to be able to do it.  So, here's to you, Lauren Hill, for not only the courage you've displayed the past year in your fight with cancer, but for the lives you've touched along the way.  The world is a much better place because of you and the legacy you will leave behind!

The Conference and Coach Hirschauer will make a donation to The Cure Starts Now Foundation in Lauren's name.  The program from the ceremony can be accessed HERE.
