MVC Winter Postseason Updates / Honors


The Miami Valley Conference hosts a First Team Recognition program during the winter recognizing those athletes and coaches who excelled during the winter sports season.  This winter's event was held at Cincinnati Country Day on March 9.  To see the program from the ceremony, click HERE.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL:  MVC UPDATE:  Congratulations to North College Hill (Scarlet) and Cincinnati Christian (Gray) for capturing MVC Divisional titles this winter.  League Player of the Year honors went to Seven Hills' Lauren Weems (Scarlet) and Cincinnati Christian's Abby Wolford (Gray).  MVC Coach of the Year honors went to North College Hill's Nathaniel Snow (Scarlet) and Cincinnati Christian's Paul Owens (Gray).  DISTRICT HONORS:  Lauren and Abby were also named to the AP All-District First Team, along with CHCA's Marissa Koob.  Other All-District recipients included North College Hill's D'Aja Turner (Third Team) and Victoria Morris (Special Mention) and Cincinnati Christian's Kirsten Cameron (Special Mention), Summit Country Day's Gabbi Gehner (Special Mention), and New Miami's Casey Burr (Special Mention).  STATE HONORS:  Abby and Marissa received DIII All-State Third Team honors from the AP, while Lauren earned DIV Special Mention recognition.  ENQUIRER PLAYERS OF THE YEAR:  Congratulations to Lauren, Marissa, and Abby for being named Players of the Year by the Enquirer, and to Coach Snow for being named girls' basketball Coach of the Year!

BOYS' BASKETBALL:  SUMMIT FALLS IN REGIONAL FINALS:  Summit Country Day defeated Blanchester 70-24 in round one and Deer Park 65-40 in second round play.  The Silver Knights then defeated Mariemont 81-64 March 1 to advance to the District final against Anna March 4. Read more HERE.  The Silver Knights downed Anna 56-51 (click HERE) to win their fifth District title in the last six years, and advanced to Regionals against Chaminade Julienne.  The Silver Knights withstood a ferocious comeback from the Eagles and hit their free throws down the stretch to defeat CJ 47-38.  Read more HERE.  Summit fell to Roger Bacon in the Regional final match-up 49-46 to finish the season 22-6!  Read more HERE.  Congratulations to Coach Bradley and the Silver Knights on a great season!   MVC UPDATE:  Congratulations to Summit Country Day (Scarlet) and CHCA and St. Bernard (Gray) for winning MVC Divisional titles.  MVC Player of the Year honors went to Summit Country Day's Antonio Woods (Scarlet) and St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's Kyle Remley.  Conference Coach of the Year recipients were Clark Montessori's Scott Kerr (Scarlet) and St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's Michael Radtke (Gray).  DISTRICT HONORS:  AP All-District honors went to Antonio (Player of the Year and First Team) and Kyle (Second Team), as well as Clark Montessori's Malik Rhodes (Second Team) and CHCA's Prince Sammons (Special Mention).  STATE HONORS:  Woods capped off his great career by being named to the DIII First Team All-State squad!  Malik was named to the Honorable Mention team!  ENQUIRER PLAYER OF THE YEAR:  Congratulations to Antonio for being named Player of the Year by the Enquirer in Division III!

WRESTLING:  MVC UPDATE:  Congratulations to North College Hill for capturing the Conference championship, the Trojans' seventh in a row.  CHCA's Kealii Cummings was named MVC Wrestler of the Year, while North College Hill's Tim Sies earned MVC Coach of the Year honors. 

BOYS' SWIMMING AND DIVING:  STATE DIVING RESULTS:  Summit Country Day's Stewart Spanbuaer capped off a fantastic season by finishing fourth in the State!  Cincinnati Christian's Phillip Lunt placed twelfth.  Congratulations to both young men!  STATE SWIMMING RESULTS:  The Seven Hills Stingers placed fourth in the State, led by Panos Skoufalos, who was the STATE CHAMPION in the 100 Back and runner-up in the 50 Free.  The Stingers' Matthew Marquardt finished right behind Panos in the 100 Back as well as seventh in the 100 Fly.  Read more HERE.  Panos and Matthew teamed with Sean Gray and Pearce Kieser to finish second in the 400 Free Relay.  Jason Guo joined Panos, Matthew, and Pearce to also finish runner-up in the 200 Medley Relay.  Pearce also placed fifth in the 100 Free and seventh in the 100 Breast.  Sean finished eighteenth in the 100 Free, while Tigar Cyr finished sixteenth in the 200 Free.  Cincinnati Country Day's Malcolm Doepke finished fifteenth in the 500 Free.  Complete boys' results can be found HERE.  MVC UPDATE:  Congratulations to Seven Hills for winning the league title and to the Stingers' Tiger Cyr for receiving MVC Swimmer of the Year honors.  Seven Hills' Allie Henges earned MVC Coach of the Year honors. 

GIRLS' SWIMMING AND DIVING:  STATE DIVING RESULTS:  Summit Country Day's Allison Brophy finished second at the State Diving Meet.  Read more HERE.  A remarkable end to an excellent season!  STATE SWIMMING RESULTS: District girls' swimming competition saw Cincinnati Country Day's Allie Wooden advance to State in a pair of events.  She won the 100 Free and finished second in the 200 Free.  Read more HERE.  At the State Meet, Allie finished second in the 200 Free and fourth in the 100 Free!  She was also a part of the 200 Free Relay (with Holly Jacobs, Kira Hughes, and Celia Macrae) which set a new school record in placing twelfth and the 400 Free Relay (again with Holly, Kira, and Celia) which placed eleventh.  CHCA's Kendall Hart placed third in the 100 Fly, setting a school record as well, and twenty-third in the 100 Breast. Cincinnati Christian's Morgan Keiner finished twentieth in the 50 Free and twenty-fourth in the 100 Fly.  Payton Keiner finished seventh in the 100 Back and ninth in the 200 IM.  Summit Country Day's Maddie Amend finished fifteenth in the 500 Free.  Seven Hills' Ellie Wilson placed seventh in the 100 Breast. Mesina earned MVC Coach of the Year honors. 

BOYS' BOWLING:  MVC UPDATE:  Congratulations to Seven Hills for earning the first-ever Conference championship in the sport of boys' bowling!  Tip of the cap to head coach Robin Wilson for winning MVC Coach of the Year accolades. The Stingers' Corey Wilson was named MVC Bowler of the Year as well. 

GYMNASTICS:  DISTRICT UPDATES:  Congratulations to both Seven Hills and Cincinnati Country Day for advancing to the District competition on February 22.  Seven Hills finished twelfth while Cincinnati Country Day finished fourteenth. 

SPECIAL MVC AWARDS:JAMES WRIGHT COACHING EXCELLENCE AWARDS:  Adam Meyer (CHCA - Wrestling) and Susan Maxwell (Summit Country Day - Swimming).  DICK SNYDER SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS:  Hanna Gottschalk Cincinnati Country Day), Nathan Grammel (Cincinnati Christian), Marissa Koob (CHCA), Andi Saylor (Clark Montessori), Tevin Riddle (Lockland), Samantha Gray (New Miami), D'Aja Turner (North College Hill), Devin Garrett (Seven Hills), Thomas Robinson (St. Bernard-Elmwood Place), and Addie Englehart (Summit Country Day).
